Zen
Parthojoy Bhattacharyya had always lived in West Bengal, surrounded by his family and friends. He was a software engineer, working for a prestigious company, and he enjoyed his job. But when an opportunity arose to work in Mumbai, he jumped at the chance. It was a chance to experience a new city, to broaden his horizons, and to further his career. So, he packed his bags and set off for the bustling metropolis.
At first, he was excited by the bright lights and the fast pace of life in Mumbai. But soon he found himself missing home. He missed the food he had grown up with, the language he had spoken all his life, and the mild weather of West Bengal. He felt alone in the big city, without any friends or family to turn to.
One day, feeling bored and homesick, Parthojoy decided to take a walk. He didn't know where he was going, but he just wanted to get out of his small apartment and explore the city. As he walked, he noticed a sign for the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. He had heard of the park before, but he didn't know much about it. Curious, he decided to check it out.
When he arrived, he was amazed. Sanjay Gandhi National Park was a huge forest, with winding paths and streams, filled with birds and animals. It was a sanctuary from the noise and bustle of the city, and Parthojoy was overjoyed to have discovered it. He started to explore the park on weekends, taking long walks and enjoying the fresh air and peace.
As he walked through the forest, Parthojoy began to feel more connected to Mumbai. He saw the beauty in the city, in its people and its culture. He began to make new friends, to learn the language, and to try the food of Mumbai. And yet, he always looked forward to his weekends in the forest, where he could find adventure and calm.
Years passed, and Parthojoy became a true Mumbaikar. He loved the city, its energy, and its diversity. But he never forgot the sanctuary of Sanjay Gandhi National Park, and he continued to explore its winding paths and hidden corners. And whenever he felt homesick or lonely, he knew he could always find peace in the heart of the city, surrounded by the trees and wildlife of the park.
Goo Wadi
Parthojoy had been photographing in the jungle for a few days, capturing stunning shots of the flora and fauna that he encountered. He was engrossed in his work, capturing the beauty of nature, when he heard a group of villagers approaching him.
The villagers were angry and suspicious, they thought that Parthojoy was taking photos of women in the jungle, and questioned him about his intentions. They asked him why he was taking photos in the "goo wadi," which was the spot where the villagers came to defecate.
Parthojoy was taken aback by the accusation and explained to them that he was not taking any inappropriate photos. He showed them his camera and the kind of photos he had taken. The villagers were skeptical and asked him to prove it.
Parthojoy quickly pulled out his phone and showed them his Instagram feed. The villagers were amazed by the stunning photographs of the jungle and the wildlife that he had captured. They apologized for the misunderstanding and asked him to forgive them.
Parthojoy understood their concerns and assured them that he was only interested in photographing the beauty of nature. The villagers were impressed with his work and asked him to do whatever he wanted in the forest, but requested him to avoid photographing around the goo wadi.
Parthojoy thanked the villagers for their understanding and promised to be mindful of their concerns. He continued his exploration of the forest, capturing the stunning beauty of nature, and sharing his photographs with the world.
Leopard
Parthojoy had been exploring the Sanjay Gandhi National Park for years, but he had never seen anything quite like the creature he came across on this particular day. He was walking along one of the paths when he heard a rustling in the bushes. He stopped in his tracks, trying to identify the source of the sound.
As he peered into the underbrush, he caught sight of something moving. It was large, with a spotted coat and sleek muscles. Parthojoy's heart skipped a beat as he realized that he was looking at a leopard.
He knew that leopards were rare and elusive creatures, and he had never expected to see one in the wild. He felt a sense of awe and fear, knowing that he was in the presence of one of the most powerful predators on earth.
For a few moments, Parthojoy stood frozen in place, watching as the leopard moved through the forest. He knew that he had to capture a photograph of the animal, but he didn't want to startle it or put himself in danger.
Slowly, he reached into his backpack and pulled out his camera. He set the lens to a long zoom, so that he could take the photograph from a safe distance. Then he carefully raised the camera to his eye, trying to keep his hands steady.
The leopard seemed unaware of Parthojoy's presence. It moved gracefully through the underbrush, its spots blending in with the dappled sunlight. Parthojoy focused the lens on the animal, trying to capture its beauty and power in a single shot.
Finally, he took the photograph. He knew that he had captured something special, something that he would treasure for the rest of his life. He watched as the leopard disappeared into the forest, feeling a sense of awe and wonder at the beauty of nature.
Parthojoy knew that he had been lucky to witness such a rare and magnificent creature. He couldn't wait to share the photograph with his friends and family, in the hope that they would see the same magic that he had seen in the wilds of Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
British Bungalow
As Parthojoy wandered through the forest in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, he couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the beauty and mystery of nature. He had always loved exploring the park, but he had never expected to stumble upon an ancient ruin.
As he walked along one of the paths, he caught sight of a crumbling bungalow. It was covered in vines and moss, and it looked as though it had been abandoned for decades. Parthojoy felt a sense of excitement at the discovery, knowing that he had stumbled upon something rare and unique.
As he approached the bungalow, he saw that some of the furniture was still intact. There was a wooden table with a few chairs, a bookshelf filled with old books, and a large, white bathtub. Parthojoy couldn't believe his luck. He knew that he had to capture the essence of this hidden gem through his lens.
He carefully set up his camera, trying to capture the beauty and decay of the bungalow. He framed the shots to showcase the old furniture and the overgrown vegetation, creating a sense of timelessness and nostalgia.
As he moved closer to the bathtub, he saw that it was in surprisingly good condition. The enamel was chipped in places, and there were a few rust stains, but overall it looked as though it could still be used. Parthojoy couldn't resist the urge to climb into the tub and take a photograph from inside.
He lay back in the tub, looking up at the blue sky through the broken roof of the bungalow. He felt a sense of peace and tranquility, knowing that he was experiencing something rare and special.
Finally, Parthojoy took the last shot, feeling a sense of satisfaction at having captured the essence of the ancient ruin. He packed up his camera and continued on his journey through the forest, feeling grateful for the chance to experience something so magical.
City eating forest
As Parthojoy continued to explore Sanjay Gandhi National Park, he couldn't help but notice the devastating effects of deforestation on the forest and its inhabitants. Trees had been cut down, and entire habitats had been destroyed. The once-thriving ecosystem was now struggling to survive.
Parthojoy felt a deep sense of sadness and anger at the destruction that he saw. He knew that he had to do something to raise awareness about the issue, and he turned to Instagram to share his photographs and his message.
He took photographs of the clear-cut areas, the piles of debris, and the empty spaces where trees had once stood tall. He also captured images of the animals who were struggling to adapt to the new environment, showing how the deforestation was affecting their lives.
Parthojoy's posts on Instagram quickly gained traction, with many people commenting on the beauty of his photographs and the urgency of the issue. He received messages from people all over the world, expressing their concern and offering their support.
As his platform grew, Parthojoy began to use his voice to advocate for change. He reached out to local organizations, urging them to take action to protect the forest and its inhabitants. He also spoke to local politicians, using his photographs to show them the devastation that had been caused by deforestation.
Over time, Parthojoy saw small changes begin to happen. More people became aware of the issue, and there was a growing sense of urgency to protect the forest. Trees were planted, and habitats were restored. Parthojoy continued to document the changes, sharing his photographs and his message with his growing audience.
Through his efforts, Parthojoy had helped to raise awareness about the devastating effects of deforestation on Sanjay Gandhi National Park. He had shown that one person can make a difference, and that by using our voices and our platforms, we can all work together to protect the natural world for generations to come.
Adivasis
As Parthojoy continued to explore Sanjay Gandhi National Park, he was amazed to discover that there was a local tribe that lived deep within the forest. He felt a sense of curiosity and intrigue about their way of life, and he knew that he had to learn more about their culture and traditions.
Parthojoy made his way to the village, where he was welcomed with open arms by the members of the tribe. They showed him their homes, their gardens, and their way of life. Parthojoy was struck by how different their way of living was from his own, and he felt a sense of awe at the connection that they had with the forest.
As he spent more time with the tribe, Parthojoy began to learn about the importance of the forest in their culture. They showed him the medicinal plants that they used to treat illnesses, and they told him stories about the animals that they lived alongside.
Parthojoy was fascinated by the way that the tribe saw the forest as a living, breathing entity, and he began to see the forest in a new way. He started to understand how every tree, every animal, and every plant was interconnected, and how they all played a vital role in maintaining the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
Over time, Parthojoy began to see himself as a part of the forest, rather than an observer of it. He saw how his actions could impact the environment, and he started to take steps to minimize his impact on the ecosystem.
The tribe showed Parthojoy a new perspective on the forest, and he felt grateful for the opportunity to learn from them. He realized that the forest was not just a place to explore and photograph, but it was also a place of deep cultural significance and importance.
As Parthojoy said goodbye to the tribe, he felt a sense of connection to the forest that he had never experienced before. He knew that he would continue to explore and document the beauty of Sanjay Gandhi National Park, but he would do so with a newfound respect and appreciation for the ecosystem and the culture that called it home.
Mystery Lights
Parthojoy was always intrigued by the mysteries of the forest, and one night, he stumbled upon something that left him in awe. As he was taking a long exposure shot of the stars over Tulsi Lake, he noticed some strange lights that seemed to be floating above the water. At first, he thought it might be some kind of reflection, but as he continued to watch, he realized that the lights were actually moving.
Parthojoy quickly changed his camera settings to capture the scene, and he managed to take a few shots of the mysterious lights. He continued to watch as the lights slowly ascended up the hillside, disappearing into the forest. Parthojoy was left feeling curious and a little spooked.
The next day, Parthojoy reached out to the forest officials to see if they had any information about the phenomenon he had witnessed. They told him that they had received similar reports in the past, but they had no explanation for what it could be.
Determined to uncover the truth, Parthojoy decided to do some investigating of his own. He talked to local residents and other photographers who had been to the park at night, hoping to gather more information about the mysterious lights.
One person he spoke to claimed to have seen the lights on a regular basis and suggested that they might be the work of supernatural entities. Another person speculated that the lights could be the result of some kind of gas or other natural phenomenon.
Parthojoy continued to research the phenomenon and even reached out to experts in the field of paranormal activity and natural phenomena. However, he was unable to find any concrete explanations for the mysterious lights.
Despite the lack of answers, Parthojoy continued to be fascinated by the phenomenon and the possibilities that it presented. He shared his images and experiences on social media, hoping to inspire others to explore and document the mysteries of nature.
In the end, Parthojoy was left with more questions than answers, but he remained determined to continue exploring the mysteries of the forest and to capture its beauty and wonder through his lens.
Monsoons
Parthojoy had always been fascinated by the monsoon season and its effects on the forest. So, as soon as the rains arrived, he set out to capture its beauty through his lens.
At first, the experience was exhilarating. The fresh smell of wet earth, the sound of raindrops on the leaves, and the lush greenery all around him filled him with a sense of wonder. But soon, he realized that photographing in the rain wasn't easy. The constant drizzle made it difficult to keep his camera equipment dry, and the wet and slippery terrain made it a challenge to get around.
Despite the difficulties, Parthojoy persisted. He started experimenting with different techniques and camera settings to capture the essence of the monsoon season. He played with shutter speeds and apertures to create the perfect balance of light and shadow, and he used reflections in puddles and lakes to create unique and captivating images.
One of the biggest challenges he faced was capturing the movement of the rain itself. He experimented with slow shutter speeds and captured the trails of raindrops as they fell from the sky. He also used the natural motion of the rain to create unique and dynamic compositions.
As the monsoon season progressed, Parthojoy encountered more challenges. The heavy downpours made it difficult to move around, and the thick fog and mist that often accompanied the rains made it difficult to see and photograph. But he continued to push himself, finding new ways to capture the beauty of the season.
In the end, his efforts paid off. He captured breathtaking images of the forest shrouded in mist and the vivid green of the vegetation contrasted against the gray skies. His photographs showcased the raw and powerful beauty of the monsoon season, and his followers on social media were in awe of his work.
Parthojoy had not only captured the essence of the season, but he had also learned to appreciate the unique challenges that the monsoon season presented. He had learned to adapt his techniques to the changing weather conditions, and in doing so, he had captured some of the most stunning images of his career.
Claws come out
As Parthojoy continued to explore the forest, he came across a group of peddlers who were selling animal claws as tiger claws to gullible tourists. Upon closer inspection, Parthojoy realized that the claws were actually from leopards, a protected species in the area.
Knowing that this kind of illegal poaching and selling was harmful to the animals and the forest, Parthojoy immediately complained to the forest officials. He shared his findings with them and urged them to take action against the peddlers.
The forest officials responded promptly to Parthojoy's complaint, and they worked with him to locate the peddlers' base in the forest. Parthojoy led them through the dense forest, using his knowledge of the area to guide them to the location.
When they finally arrived, the peddlers were caught red-handed. They had leopard claws and other animal parts in their possession, all of which were illegal to sell or trade. The forest officials arrested the peddlers on the spot and seized their merchandise.
Parthojoy was relieved that he had been able to help stop this illegal activity, but he knew that there was still much work to be done to protect the animals and the forest. He took it upon himself to raise awareness about the issue, using his social media platforms to share his experiences and educate his followers about the importance of preserving the natural environment.
Parthojoy's efforts did not go unnoticed, and he was praised by the forest officials and local conservation groups for his contribution to the protection of the forest and its inhabitants. His actions inspired others to take up the cause, and together they worked towards a brighter future for the forest and its wildlife.
Forest creatures
Parthojoy was fascinated by the vast biodiversity of the forest, and he set out on a mission to document the different species of flora and fauna that he came across. He spent long hours in the forest, patiently waiting and observing the wildlife.
As he explored deeper into the forest, Parthojoy was amazed by the different species of animals that he encountered. From majestic tigers to playful monkeys, the forest was teeming with life. He captured their beauty and uniqueness through his lens, bringing to life the stories of the creatures that called the forest home.
Parthojoy also documented the different species of plants and flowers that he came across. From the delicate orchids to the towering trees, he captured their essence in his photographs. He was especially interested in the medicinal properties of the plants and their role in the ecosystem.
During his travels, Parthojoy encountered several endangered species of animals, such as the Indian leopard and the Indian giant squirrel. He made sure to capture their beauty and highlight their importance in the ecosystem. He also documented the threats that these animals faced due to habitat loss and human encroachment.
Parthojoy's efforts to document the biodiversity of the forest were not in vain. His photographs showcased the richness and diversity of the forest, and they served as a reminder of the importance of preserving these natural habitats. His work was recognized by local conservation groups, and he was invited to showcase his photographs at exhibitions and events.
Through his lens, Parthojoy was able to capture the essence of the forest and its inhabitants. He was determined to use his photographs to raise awareness about the importance of preserving these natural habitats and the need to protect the diverse species that call them home.
Poisoned pig
One day, Parthojoy notices a horrible stink in the air. Following the smell, Parthojoy was devastated to come across the dead pig in the forest. As he looked closer, he realized that the villagers had poisoned it to bait and kill a leopard. He knew that this was a common practice in many areas, where villagers viewed leopards as a threat to their livestock and crops.
Determined to make a change, Parthojoy decided to reach out to the villagers and educate them about leopards and their importance in the ecosystem. He understood that fear and misinformation were driving the villagers' actions, and he hoped to dispel their misconceptions.
He arranged a meeting with the villagers and spoke to them about the role of leopards in controlling the population of herbivores, which in turn prevents overgrazing and soil erosion. He also explained that killing leopards would disrupt the balance of the ecosystem and could lead to the proliferation of other, more harmful animals.
Parthojoy also suggested simple steps that the villagers could take to avoid conflict with leopards. He encouraged them to keep their livestock in secure enclosures, avoid leaving food waste in the open, and to not venture into the forest alone or at night.
The villagers were initially skeptical of Parthojoy's words, but he persevered and eventually won their trust. He showed them some of his photographs of leopards in the wild and shared stories of his encounters with them. Over time, the villagers began to realize that leopards were not their enemies, but an essential part of the forest ecosystem.
Parthojoy's efforts did not go unnoticed. Local conservation groups applauded his work and invited him to give talks and workshops on wildlife conservation in the area. The villagers, too, began to appreciate the importance of protecting the forest and its inhabitants, and they took steps to reduce human-animal conflict.
Thanks to Parthojoy's advocacy, the villagers learned to coexist with the leopards and other wildlife in the forest, making it a safer and more sustainable habitat for all.
The rocked python
Parthojoy was exploring the forest one day when he came across a shocking sight. A group of boys had placed a large stone on the throat of a python that was in the process of digesting a small piglet. The snake was struggling to breathe, and it was clear that it was in distress.
Parthojoy immediately intervened and asked the boys to remove the stone from the snake's throat. But they were hesitant, and some even laughed at him, saying that the snake was just a danger to their livestock. However, Parthojoy knew that every living creature has a right to live and that it was not the python's fault that it had preyed on a small piglet.
Ignoring the boys' taunts, Parthojoy gave some water to the python to soothe its parched throat. To his relief, the water seemed to reinvigorate the python, which began to writhe and squirm, eventually regurgitating the piglet. The python then pushed away the stone that had been choking it, and slithered away into the forest.
Parthojoy was both amazed and grateful that the python had survived such an ordeal. He knew that it was not uncommon for humans to come into conflict with snakes, especially those that were seen as a threat to their livestock or crops. But he hoped that his actions would show the boys that every living creature deserved to be treated with kindness and respect.
Parthojoy documented the entire incident on his camera, hoping to raise awareness about the importance of respecting all forms of life, including snakes. He shared the story on his social media, highlighting the importance of coexisting with wildlife and not taking matters into one's own hands.
The incident had a profound impact on Parthojoy, who realized that every small act of kindness towards animals can make a difference. He vowed to continue his mission of raising awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and protecting the delicate balance of the forest ecosystem.
Mama Bhanja
The story of Mama Bhanja had always intrigued Parthojoy. He had heard it from the locals and had read about it in books, but he had never really delved deeper into it. So, one day, he decided to visit Sanjay Gandhi National Park to explore the legend.
As he walked through the park, he came across an old man sitting on a bench, looking at the hills in the distance. The man noticed Parthojoy and beckoned him over. Parthojoy sat down beside him and struck up a conversation.
The old man began to tell Parthojoy the story of Mama Bhanja. He recounted how the uncle and nephew had been on a tiger hunt through the forest. They had been on opposite peaks, watching for the tiger when they saw it. The tiger had leaped high into the air, and both the uncle and nephew had shot at it simultaneously. The bullets had crossed each other in mid-air, hitting both the uncle and the nephew, and they had both fallen to the ground, dead.
Parthojoy was fascinated by the story and asked the old man if he knew where the tombs of Mama and Bhanja were. The old man nodded and pointed to the hills in the distance. "The tombs are on those two peaks," he said.
Parthojoy decided to visit the tombs and pay his respects. As he climbed the hills, he couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and respect for the uncle and nephew who had lost their lives in such a tragic way. When he finally reached the tombs, he stood there for a while, taking in the beauty of the surroundings and the history of the place.
As he walked back down the hill, Parthojoy realized that the story of Mama Bhanja was more than just a legend. It was a reminder of the dangers of the forest and the need to respect the wildlife that called it home. He made a promise to himself to always be mindful of the impact he had on the environment and to strive to protect it.
Leopard Volume 2
Parthojoy often spends his time exploring the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mumbai. With his camera always at the ready, he patiently waits for the perfect shot to capture the beauty and mystery of the forest.
One day, as he was silently observing the surroundings, he spotted a leopard stalking its prey. He watched in awe as the majestic feline gracefully climbed up a tree with a small piglet in its jaws. As he watched from a safe distance, Parthojoy was about to witness a scene that would leave him with a newfound respect for the fierce determination of wild animals.
Parthojoy watches in awe as the leopard climbs up the tree with its prey in its jaws. The leopard seems to be enjoying the catch, as it settles itself on a branch and begins to prepare for its meal. Suddenly, two large wild hogs, accompanied by three little piglets, presumably the mother and father of the piglet, come charging towards the tree.
Parthojoy realizes that the wild hogs are protecting their young, and they seem determined to take back the piglet from the leopard. The leopard tries to hold on to the piglet and fend off the wild hogs, but it is no match for their strength.
After a few moments of intense struggle, the leopard finally gives up and drops the piglet. The wild hogs and the piglets quickly run away, leaving the leopard to retreat to the safety of the forest.
Parthojoy is amazed by the scene he has witnessed. He realizes that even in the animal kingdom, the law of the jungle is not always so clear cut. He takes out his camera and snaps a few shots of the leopard as it disappears into the dense forest.
As he climbs down from the tree, Parthojoy is left with a newfound appreciation for the intricacies of nature and the fierce determination of wild animals to protect their young.
Deer
Parthojoy, always in search of the perfect shot, sets out to capture the beauty and grace of the wild deer that roam the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mumbai. However, these timid creatures prove to be a challenging subject for his camera, as they are quick to flee at the slightest hint of danger.
Undeterred, Parthojoy patiently follows a small herd of deer through the forest, trying to capture their movements on film. Despite his best efforts, the deer remain skittish and elusive, darting away at the slightest sound or movement.
But Parthojoy's persistence finally pays off when he spots the deer leaping over a stream in midair. In a swift motion, he captures the graceful movement of the deer, freezing the moment in time through his lens. Though he may not have captured the entire herd on film, the few shots he did get were a testament to the beauty and elegance of these wild creatures.
Tiger Hill
Parthojoy woke up early on a Saturday morning, feeling the familiar tug of excitement in his chest. Today was the day he had planned to explore the forest and see what new treasures he could capture with his camera. He packed his backpack with essentials – a water bottle, a snack, his camera gear, and set out on foot towards the forest.
As he walked towards the forest, the first rays of sunlight broke through the trees, illuminating the grass with a golden glow. He couldn't resist the temptation and paused to take a few pictures of the landscape. The dew on the grass sparkled like diamonds, and the distant sound of birdsongs filled his ears.
Further along the path, he stumbled upon a field of sleeping butterflies. They were all clustered together on a patch of wildflowers, their wings gently fluttering in the morning breeze. He couldn't help but smile at the sight and carefully tiptoed around them, not wanting to disturb their peaceful slumber.
As he continued on his trek, he suddenly stopped in his tracks – there was a snake lying right in front of him. He quickly realized that the snake had a wounded tail, probably from some predator attack. The snake's beady eyes stared at him warily, but it didn't seem to pose any threat. Parthojoy took a few quick shots of the snake before it slithered away into the bushes.
He soon reached the top of the hill, where he found a small and serene village nestled amidst vast green fields. The sun was shining brightly, and he felt the warmth on his skin as he took a deep breath of the fresh air. The grass swayed in the breeze, and he could hear the sound of cows mooing in the distance.
He decided to take a break and rest for a while in the village. The villagers welcomed him with open arms, offering him a cup of steaming tea and a few slices of homemade bread. They told him stories of their lives in the village and how they had learned to live in harmony with nature. Parthojoy listened intently, soaking in every detail, and capturing a few candid shots of the locals.
After an hour or so, he decided to head back down. As he was leaving the village, he saw a group of people starting their trek up the hill. He couldn't help but smile, knowing that they would soon be tired and exhausted from the mid-day heat.
The trek back was just as beautiful as the trek up. He saw a few more snakes, a few wildflowers, and even managed to capture some deer leaping over a stream in mid-air. As he walked, he thought about the beauty of the forest and the many wonders it held. He was grateful for the chance to explore and document it all.
Parthojoy finally arrived back at his home, feeling fulfilled and energized. He couldn't wait to sort through his photographs and share them with the world. The forest had once again inspired him and filled him with a sense of wonder and awe.
Water fall
As Parthojoy walked through the lush green forests, he stumbled upon a beautiful waterfall that cascaded down the rocks, filling the air with the sound of rushing water. However, as he approached, he noticed a group of young boys gathered around, taking pictures and being quite loud. As he got closer, he saw that one of the boys was perched precariously on a high rock, attempting to take a selfie.
Parthojoy was immediately concerned, knowing how dangerous it was to take pictures in such heights and around water bodies. His worst fears were confirmed when the boy suddenly lost his balance, slipping off the rock and landing awkwardly on the ground below. The sound of the boy's leg breaking echoed through the otherwise serene forest, as the other boys panicked and called out for help.
Without hesitation, Parthojoy rushed over to the boy's side and checked to see the extent of his injuries. He quickly realized that the boy needed medical attention and could not be moved easily. He asked the other boys to help him carry the injured boy back to the city, which was a few miles away. The boys were hesitant at first, but eventually agreed to help.
Together, they carefully lifted the injured boy and began the slow and arduous journey back to the city, taking frequent breaks to rest and rehydrate. As they walked, Parthojoy spoke to the boys about the dangers of taking selfies in such dangerous spots, and the importance of being careful and responsible in nature. He shared his experiences of encountering wild animals, slippery rocks, and steep cliffs, emphasizing the importance of staying safe and respecting the environment.
After a few hours of walking, they finally reached the city, where the boy was taken to the hospital for medical attention. Parthojoy felt relieved and grateful that he was able to help the boy and make sure he received proper care. He knew that he had made an impact on the group of boys, and hoped that they would take his words to heart and be more responsible and cautious in the future.
As he walked away from the hospital, Parthojoy couldn't help but feel grateful for the lessons he had learned in the forest. He knew that nature was a beautiful and powerful force, but also one that needed to be respected and treated with care. He made a vow to continue exploring and documenting the beauty of the forest, while also doing his best to protect it and its inhabitants.
Jaldhara
Parthojoy had been hiking in the forest all morning and was feeling tired. He decided to take a break and sat down on a rock by a temple. As he sat there, he noticed a monkey come down from a nearby tree and gingerly approach the jaldhara of the temple to drink some water.
Parthojoy was fascinated by the sight and started taking some pictures. Just then, he heard a commotion and looked up to see an Adivasi boy who had climbed a jackfruit tree. The boy was dropping down jackfruits from a great height, and Parthojoy could see that he was having a lot of fun.
Suddenly, a troop of monkeys rushed through the trees, continuously running overhead through the same large branches. Parthojoy watched as they chattered and chased each other, playing an elaborate game of tag through the canopy.
As he watched, he noticed that there was a standoff and conflict between two troops of monkeys. The monkeys from one troop were trying to cross into the territory of the other troop, and there was a lot of aggression and noise. The monkeys were shouting, screaming and making a lot of noise.
Parthojoy watched the standoff with interest, fascinated by the behavior of the monkeys. He took a few pictures, capturing the intense expressions on their faces as they squared off against each other.
Eventually, one troop of monkeys backed off, and the other troop emerged victorious. The conflict was over, and the monkeys went back to their normal activities. Parthojoy sat on the rock, feeling grateful for the opportunity to witness such an incredible natural event. He knew that he would never forget this day and the incredible experience of seeing the monkeys in action.
Uruz
Parthojoy had heard about the Uruz celebration at Mama Bhanja, two peaks deep within the forest from a fellow photographer, and had been eager to witness the festivities himself. As he made his way through the forest, he could hear the sound of drums and singing getting louder and louder.
When he arrived, he saw Bua, a respected elder, sitting under a large banyan tree, surrounded by people of all ages. A tea-seller was making his way through the crowd, pouring steaming cups of chai into everyone's hands. Some people were paying for their tea, while others seemed to be getting it for free.
Parthojoy approached Bua, who welcomed him warmly and offered him a seat on a large rock nearby. He watched as the festivities continued around him - people dancing, singing, and enjoying plates of biryani, dal rice, and lemon juice. The atmosphere was electric, with a sense of joy and community in the air.
After the meal, Parthojoy joined a group of men who were sitting together, passing a chillum around. He had never smoked before, but he decided to give it a try, taking one drag and coughing as he exhaled. The men around him laughed and passed the chillum to the next person.
As the sun began to set and the festivities died down, Parthojoy said his goodbyes to Bua and the other members of the tribe. He left the celebration with a sense of wonder and gratitude, realizing that even in the depths of the forest, people could come together and celebrate their traditions and culture.
Photography meet
Civet
Parthojoy had always been fascinated by the diverse wildlife in the forests of India. He was always eager to explore deeper and observe rare animals in their natural habitat. One day, he decided to venture into the core region of the forest, which was not open to the public. With special permission from the forest authorities, he set out on his journey.
He started walking through the dense forest, taking care to make as little noise as possible so as not to startle any animals. He followed the calls of the birds and the rustling of the leaves, hoping to come across something exciting. After walking for a few hours, he spotted a group of langurs in the distance.
Parthojoy slowly approached the group of langurs, keeping his distance so as not to frighten them. As he watched them, one of the langurs suddenly took off, jumping from one branch to another. Intrigued, Parthojoy followed the langur's path, moving deeper into the forest.
After a few minutes of following the langur, Parthojoy suddenly saw movement in the bushes ahead. He quickly raised his camera, focusing on the spot where the movement had occurred. To his amazement, he saw a rare civet emerge from the bushes, moving with grace and agility.
Parthojoy was thrilled to capture the photograph of the elusive civet, which he knew would be a prized addition to his collection. He stayed there for a while, watching the civet move through the undergrowth before it disappeared out of sight.
As he made his way back to the edge of the forest, Parthojoy couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder and gratitude for the chance to witness such a rare and beautiful animal in its natural habitat. He knew that this experience would stay with him forever, and he couldn't wait to share it with his friends and family.
Hunter
Parthojoy had always been fascinated by the wildlife of the forests, and he would often spend long hours observing the animals in their natural habitats. But he had never spent a night in the wilderness, and he decided that it was time to do so. He chose AC point, a high peak in the forest with breathtaking views of the city on one side and the dense forest on the other.
As he settled in for the night, he was surrounded by the sounds of the forest. The air was filled with the chirping of crickets, the hooting of owls, and the rustling of leaves. As the night deepened, the alarm calls of a herd of barking deer echoed through the forest. He also heard the deep, sonorous calls of a few sambhar, adding to the eerie yet calming atmosphere.
From the mountaintops, he saw flocks of birds that were not nocturnal, still flying. They looked like they were going somewhere, as if they had an important destination to reach. Parthojoy wondered where they could be going, and what could be driving them at such a late hour.
In the middle of the night, he heard a bloodcurdling roar. It was the roar of a leopard, and Parthojoy felt a shiver run down his spine. He knew that leopards were not uncommon in the area, but he had never come across one before. He remained still, listening to the sounds of the forest and trying to spot any movement.
And then, he saw it. A large, muscular black leopard, known as Big Boss, was walking past him slowly, with fresh blood on its muzzle. Parthojoy felt a mix of awe and fear at the sight of the powerful creature. He knew that he was witnessing something extraordinary, and he stayed silent and still, not wanting to disturb the majestic animal.
The leopard walked on, disappearing into the darkness of the forest. Parthojoy stayed up for a while, still reeling from the encounter. As he finally went to sleep, he knew that he had experienced something truly magical in the heart of the forest.
Tower
Parthojoy decided to visit the Radio Tower, which is the highest location in Sanjay Gandhi National Park. He wanted to capture some stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. He started his journey early in the morning, and made his way through the dense forest. After a few hours of hiking, he finally reached the Radio Tower.
From the top of the tower, Parthojoy could see the entire park, including the hills, lakes, and forests. He took out his camera and started clicking pictures. He captured some stunning shots of the sunrise, as the sun slowly rose over the hills, casting a golden glow over the landscape.
As he was taking pictures, he noticed a group of birds flying in formation. He quickly switched to his telephoto lens and captured some beautiful shots of the birds in flight. The birds were flying in a perfect V-formation, and it was a sight to behold.
As he continued to take pictures, he heard the sound of monkeys in the distance. He looked in the direction of the sound and saw a troop of monkeys moving through the trees. They were swinging from branch to branch, and it was a joy to watch.
After spending a few hours at the Radio Tower, Parthojoy decided to head back down. As he made his way down the hill, he couldn't help but feel grateful for the beauty of nature that surrounded him. He knew that he would never forget this incredible experience.
Encounters
Parthojoy was an avid wildlife photographer, and the Sanjay Gandhi National Park was his favorite place to capture the beauty and diversity of nature. Over the years, he had many encounters with rare and endangered animals, each of which left a lasting impression on him.
One of the first animals he saw was the Indian giant squirrel, an elusive creature that is rarely seen in the wild. Parthojoy was lucky enough to capture a photo of one jumping from one tree to another, its bushy tail trailing behind it like a plume of fire.
Another rare animal he came across was the Malabar civet, a shy nocturnal creature that is critically endangered. Parthojoy managed to snap a few photos of one drinking from a stream, its sleek black fur glistening in the moonlight.
One of his most thrilling encounters was with a family of Indian rock pythons, one of the largest snakes in the world. Parthojoy watched in awe as the mother python coiled around her clutch of eggs, fiercely guarding them from any potential predators. He captured a stunning image of her head and neck, which seemed to shimmer in the dappled sunlight.
Perhaps the most heart-stopping encounter he had was with a pair of Indian wolves, a rare and endangered species that is seldom seen in the wild. Parthojoy watched as they hunted down a herd of chital deer, their lean, sinewy bodies moving with incredible grace and speed. He managed to get a few incredible shots of them running through the forest, their golden eyes gleaming in the dim light.
Despite the thrill of these encounters, Parthojoy knew that he was witnessing something precious and fragile. He hoped that his photos would help raise awareness about the importance of preserving the natural beauty and diversity of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, so that future generations could also experience the wonder of its rare and endangered creatures.
Community
Over the years, Parthojoy Bhattacharyya became a familiar face to many locals in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. He spent so much time there that he eventually became acquainted with some of the other regulars.
One such person was Ajay, a guide who had lived near the park all his life. Ajay knew the ins and outs of the forest like the back of his hand, and he was always happy to share his knowledge with Parthojoy. Together, they explored the many trails that crisscrossed the park, looking for interesting plants and animals to photograph. Ajay was an expert at identifying birds and insects, and he taught Parthojoy a lot about the different species that lived in the park.
Another person that Parthojoy got to know was Jyoti, a young woman who was studying ecology at a nearby university. Jyoti was passionate about conservation, and she was always eager to discuss the various threats facing the park's fragile ecosystem. She introduced Parthojoy to a number of environmental activists who were working to protect the park from encroachment and other forms of damage. Together, they attended rallies and protests, hoping to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the park for future generations.
Parthojoy also became friendly with a group of tribal people who lived on the fringes of the park. These people had a deep connection to the forest, and they relied on it for their livelihoods. They showed Parthojoy how to forage for wild fruits and berries, and how to make simple traps to catch small animals. They also shared stories about the park's rich history, including tales of the ancient temples and forts that dotted the landscape. Parthojoy found their way of life to be fascinating, and he was humbled by their deep reverence for the natural world.
Through these and other encounters, Parthojoy gained a deeper appreciation for the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and the people who lived in and around it. He realized that the park was not just a collection of plants and animals, but a vibrant community of people who shared a common love for the natural world. And he knew that he would always cherish the memories he had made there.
Census
Parthojoy was excited to participate in the annual census of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. He had been assigned to a machan next to a watering hole, which was the perfect spot to spot different species of animals. He spent his entire weekend observing and noting down the number of sightings of different animals.
Letter to Editor
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my concern about the proposed construction of the Metro Carshed in Sanjay Gandhi National Park. As a regular visitor to the park, I have come to appreciate the value of this green space and the vital role it plays in maintaining the ecological balance of the city.
Sanjay Gandhi National Park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including many endangered species. The construction of the Metro Carshed in the park would cause irreparable damage to this delicate ecosystem. The noise, pollution and destruction caused by the construction work would harm the wildlife and disrupt their habitat, leading to a decline in the population of many species.
Moreover, the park is a popular destination for nature lovers, trekkers, and photographers like me. It provides a much-needed respite from the concrete jungle of Mumbai and offers a glimpse of the natural world. The construction of the Metro Carshed would take away this valuable resource from the citizens of Mumbai and destroy the very essence of the park.
Instead of destroying this precious resource, I urge the government to explore alternative locations for the carshed that would not harm the environment. We need to protect our natural heritage and preserve it for future generations to come.
Sincerely,
Parthojoy Bhattacharyya
