Eldest

Eragon book II (actually Inheritence II) ended in much the same way as the first LOTR movie, and I imagine, each of the seven LOTR books before they were finished. The story comes to a sudden halt, without an ending or even a hint of an ending. The story just abruptly stops. You keep turning the pages, imagining the story to continue, and then there is nothing more to read. I was taken by surprise when I finished the book.

Now Eragon does what everyone thinks Tolkein has done in the structure of the story. Although the movies are a triology, as are the Eragon books. I do not know if this is done purposely or not.

The book fails miserably in many areas. It tries too hard to dissapitate wisdome, and that pathetic kind of wisdom which everyone knows you must follow bu no one does. Most of the training, which is most of the book, is therefore a boring read.

An ok fantasy read - something to kill time. Nothing more.

Wonder what next

Sometimes I wonder if wikicities is a futile venture. Wikipedia is a VERY innovative idea, and in fact, a necessary one. That subsists on donations. However, there iis uncyclopedia, a part of wikicities. So little funding is diverted towards it that it has reduced to showing adsense ads on its pages. Wikitionary is somewhat unnecessary... doesen't serve the same purpose as wikipedia - at least not to the same level of potency. Wikiquote is also unnecessary, but wikitexts is somewhat ok.

What is questionable is that there are tax deductions because of donation to wikipedia.
Wonder how they pulled THAT off.

Kong is King

That was almost the name of the movie that I watched after a five minute notice. In the movie, while Jack is heading the expidition to find Ann, the crew of the ship spot one of King Kong's footprints. One crewman says "only one thing can leave a footprint that large - the abominable snowman."

Mistake. he term "Abominable Snowman" was popularised by the 1951 Shipton expedition to the Mount Everest, the movie takes place in the year 1933, the year when the original movie was released.

Put in a new shitload of songs into my phone. The iPop video is out, knew that this wouldn't take long - people with iPod nanos were already usinglinux based players to play videos...

Can install a linux based (actually GNU) os on my s60 nokia 6600, but seeing how fucked up my Windows OS got when I installed Linux, I don't think I will take the risk. New software too... looking in to storing a few web pages to read when I am bored. Mostly lengthy wikis.

Nose back to the grindstone from tomorrow. Surprising there was no college today. Think I will go to sleep now or I will not be able to awake in time to head out to college. Seven fucking fifteen.

Eldest

Pretty easy to simply refer to the triology as Eragon instead of 'Inhertience'. So I go around wrongly saying I am reading Eragon when in fact, I am reading Eldest, book II or inhertience, which I inappropriately refer to as Eragon. Pretty muddled way of confessing my own ineptness (much less the inept use of the word). Larger point being however, that although Eragon (proving my point, although I am aware of the mistake) is too god damned preachy, too fucking 'inspired' by Tolkein (if you get what I mean) and as bloody Jeuvenile as a Chetan Bhagat book. The good thing about Eragon is, that the series, unique in its genre, rising above the works of Tolkein does not indulge in racism. The one thing I hated about Tolkein is that it was so fucking racist. Orcs were bad by nature. The equivalents in Eragon, Kull are initially on the side of the evil empire, but become allies of the good guys later when they learn that servitute to the empire is not beneficial for them. Althouh there aren't direct allusions in old fantasty to real races, the same sentiments are brought out if an entire race is referred to as malformed and immoral. Harry Potter half rises out, with some werewolves being good, but unfortunately all dementors are bad. there is one issue in Animorphs with a good yeerk, but that is clearly written JUST to make the series non racist. Star Wars stays out of this mess entirely... almost.
Still, coming from Eragon, in the setting, is a very commendable piece of intention.

However, the book advocates atheism... something I am surprised hasn't gotten a reaction from the clergy, like HP got because of simply showing witchcraft in a good light, even without advocating it.

Am surprised that this turned out like this. Pretty happy with everything else, except the line where the bees exploit the flowers – I wanted point out the fact that this gives us honey, but now have to leave it to interpretation. Hate to leave such things for interpretation.
