The Story of Rexy

Rexy is a T. Rex from Jurassic Park, actually the one and only T. Rex from Jurassic Park. Rexy is a female, who was to be the main attraction in Isla Nublar. In the demo ride, they try to bait Rexy with a goat, but Rexy likes to hunt, not be fed. We see her appear first when things start going to shit. She dispatches impact tremors as her hair-raising herald. Then she chases Ellie, Malcolm and Muldoon in an epic car chase sequence.

At the climax, Ellie, Grant and the kids are cornered by the three raptors who really are on the verge of building a spaceship and going to the Moon. This is when Rexy steps in, and literally becomes the hero of JP.

Now Rexy does not show up in the two JP sequels, although both movies do feature T. rexes. The family of T. rexes in The Lost World: Jurassic Park (JP2) is from Isla Sorna. The lone adult male T. rex in JP3 is unrelated to the family from JP2. Rexy then appears in Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom, and Dominion. Rexy appears during the climax of Jurassic World. She battles and takes down the Indominus Rex, and pushes it into the jaws of the Mosasaurus.

Then Rexy shows up right at the start of Fallen Kingdom. Here again, something similar happens. She attacks one of the mercs, they escape, but then the Mosasaurus gets him. Rexy is moving fast with strobe lighting, so had to play back at 50 per cent speed to capture this.

Then in the climax, Rexy ends up killing and eating Eli Mills, the villain of the movie, then escapes into the wild.

Rexy also shows up in Dominion, in the climax. This means that Biosyn tracked her down, caught her, and then moved her to BioSyn Valley in Italy. This part is not shown in the movies, but is shown in Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.... right in the fourth season, which is actually season 8 if you consider Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous as well. There are Big Eatie and Small Eatie in Camp Cretaceous, which are different from the T. rex fam shown in JP2. If anyone is keeping count, that makes a total of seven T. rexes in the franchise, Rexy from JP Buck, Doe and Junior from JP2, the 'Bull' T. rex from JP3, and Big Eatie and Small Eatie from Camp Cretaceous. Here is Rexy in S4e1 of Chaos Theory.

The season takes place at the same time as Dominion actually, and this scene takes place after Soyona is apprehended by French Intelligence, and before Kayla reaches Biosyn Valley on her plane with Owen and Claire. Even the Therizinosaurus shows up in Chaos Theory, if it did not, that would be as wasted as the Mososaur in Camp Cretaceous. Here is Rexy in Dominion, recreating the iconic logo from JP, that kickstarted the whole franchise.

Then there was this epic scene where the Therizinosaurus, Giganotosaurus and Rexy. Rexy and the Therizinosaurus tag team and take out the apex predator, Giganotosaurus. No Mosasaurus comes to the rescue this time.

At the end of Dominion, Rexy is presumably the apex predator of Biosyn Valley. But actually, a little more of this story is revealed by Chaos Theory. Biosyn captured the Buck and Doe as well (where is Junior?), and we get to see Rexy, Buck and Doe all together at once chasing away raptors troubling the Nublar Six. This mirrors the ending of the first movie, demonstrating that the T. rexes are the real heroes of the franchise.

SEO is absolutely useless for a news site

If you are a news site doing SEO, they you are pretty much axing your own leg. Here is why:

If you are optimising your content for what people are searching for, then it means that you continuously deliver your news late, do not have anything original to say, have little or no editorial direction, add nothing of value, and are essentially hitching a ride on other people's work.

Avi Loeb has some outrageous ideas, is one of the many scientists on substack, but what is great about his content is that whatever he bashes out makes global headlines. He does not need to do SEO, because when he writes, he creates the content that people look for. He actually specialises in black holes, cosmology and the early universe, and his ramblings on aliens are considered pseudoscience, that most serious scientists, including astrobiologists, do not engage with. Still, his content is SEO gold. If you are a news site, you should be writing your own gold.

So, SEO means you are late and unoriginal. It is not a good approach to growing an audience. If you are catering to readers who want to read about increasing federalism in India's space sector on the same site as curd rice recipes, either the people who read about space or about curd rice are going to go away. (Not me, Im right in the chut of this venn diagram). It is dangerous, even suicidal for a news organisation to sacrifice quality and editorial oversight to favour high volume of SEO articles.

Now, if your entire editorial policy is dependent on SEO, then you are basically publishing the same shit as everyone else, removing entirely the scope for discovery and providing unique content for your readers. There are some things that people just will not search for, such as the growing need for a second kitchen, at least a larder with automatic deliveries and inventory tracking, or the amazing story of science catching up and proving the mother right, who believed for decades that her unresponsive son with severe brain damage was still hanging in there, or the amazing efforts by a team of scientists who used microgliders to teach the endangered Northern Bald Ibis to migrate. In-print, the New Yorker aptly titled this story as 'Helicopter Parents'. Your publication will never write stories such as these if it relies on SEO, and you are wasting away the careers of all the journalists who work for you by depending on SEO. Searching for 'LPG' on Google and tabbing to News will not show you how the LPG cylinder shortage is causing crematoriums in Keralam to shut down

There are also concepts and ideas that are too complex for anyone to look up. Even if you look up Laplace’s principle of ‘the weight of evidence for an extraordinary claim must be proportioned to its strangeness’, Google and other search engines are unlikely to surface current, relevant pieces wrangling with the subject such as 'Why Do Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence?' by Corey S Powell, or my own exploration and explanation of the subject that I published a few months before that one. These concepts are too complex for anyone to search on Google. If you are serious about News, you cannot be serious about SEO.

The algorithms that drive engagement on social media heavily favour clickbait, sensationalism, and low-quality content. You cannot allow dumbfucks in senior positions to drag the quality of journalism down some hell-hole, then keep digging. Most Indian news sites shy away from using the accurate terms and technical jargon, and do not even end up communicating what happened. The trans-lunar injection manoeuvre of Chandrayaan 3 and the trans-Lagrangian-point-1-injection manoeuvre of Aditya L1 were just covered as 'important' or 'crucial' manoeuvres, with the body text often omitting what the spacecraft even did. You are so focused on SEO, that you do not even convey the news!

Now even the best experts in SEO, have little to no understanding of the value of editorial content. Entire websites are tuned towards in-bound links from Google searches, with the interfaces burying older stories with no way to access them from the home pages. This devalues years of work by journalists, with many platforms opting to purge previous stories when new SEO policies are formulated. Such news sites do not care about the talent, or the previous work put in. They are ruthless, careless and damaging to the industry. Any journalist who has worked for more than 10 years in India knows that a portion of their work... in fact years of work, has been destroyed. This is why you are better off working in print media.

If a news desk starts with Google trends and specialised keyword tools instead of authentic sources and original reporting, you are basically killing the entire industry by crowding out real journalism with copy-pasted, paraphrased, and AI-generated crap. If your news organisation relies on SEO for traffic, then it is setting up the property for failure, and committing a crime against the company they work for.

Remember, Google is not your friend, it has killed your entire industry, and is your biggest enemy! The AI generated overviews keeps people on Google. If you set up processes and systems to optimise SEO, Google will change the rules, and fuck you in the ass. You cannot win, even if you play by the rules, that keep changing, are arcane, and necessarily opaque to prevent exploitation.

So if you are a news site and the management is more focused on SEO than editorial, then get the fuck out! In India, the news sites that prioritise editorial over SEO, and publish original, authentic stories without stuffing their site with crap are The Print, The Wire, Scroll, The Caravan, Newslaundry, News Minute, and The Ken. The tier-2 ones that still maintain some editorial while following the rules of SEO are The Hindu and Indian Express

No L337speek for Han

You cannot retcon how characters dealt with machines. When Han talks to the Falcon, its an almost mystical dialogue between human and machine. That is how it was meant to be interpreted, not as some revolutionary robot named after 90s hacker slang, L3-37, who was an ex-lover Lando, and has been integrated with the ship... Han is not talking to L3-37, he is talking to the Falcon, not some ghost in the electronics of the ship, hoping it gets him, something similar to the force that he is so skeptical about.

Episode 5 of Xmen 97 is so cool

Gambit finally got heroed like he deserved. The season has been changing everything every episode. There are so many easter eggs and cameos. The music is so good, and all the X-men work so well together. Everyone is using their powers in new ways, and the animations are soo cool.

Magneto looks a lot like Astarion

There are some dubious messages though, such as acting now to save tomorrow, like we are doing with the "ozone stuff" can lead mankind down dangerous paths... and that we should not try shifting the future too much? I didn't really understand that bit.

There are great references to the original series, and the previous episode got back Mojo, one of the most memorable characters from the original show.

FADE IN:

EXT. MUMBAI CITY - NIGHT

The streets of Mumbai are lit up with colorful lights and people are dancing to the sound of Bollywood music. Suddenly, a spaceship crashes into a nearby building, causing a huge explosion.

INT. SPACESHIP - NIGHT

Inside the spaceship, we see a groovy-looking ALIEN, wearing a shiny kurta and jazzy sunglasses. He looks around, confused.

ALIEN: (to himself) Where am I? This doesn't look like the Bollywood planet.

Suddenly, the door bursts open and a group of MUMBAI POLICE OFFICERS enter, pointing their guns at him.

OFFICER: Freeze! You're under arrest!

ALIEN: What? Why?

OFFICER: You crashed your spaceship into a building! You could have killed people!

ALIEN: Oh, sorry about that. I was just trying to land in the middle of the Bollywood beats.

OFFICER: Bollywood? What are you talking about?

ALIEN: I'm an alien from the planet of dance and music. I came to Mumbai to spread the joy of Bollywood!

OFFICER: (laughs) Joy of Bollywood? You're insane!

ALIEN: (starts dancing) Insane in the membrane! Insane in the brain!

The officers look at each other, puzzled.

OFFICER: (to his partner) I think this guy's nuts.

ALIEN: (still dancing) You guys should try it! It's easy! Just follow my lead!

The officers look at each other, unsure of what to do. Finally, they join in, and soon the whole room is filled with Bollywood music and dancing.

CUT TO:

EXT. MUMBAI CITY - DAY

The streets of Mumbai are now filled with people dancing and singing to the Bollywood beats. The police officers and the alien are leading the way, followed by a crowd of Bollywood enthusiasts.

ALIEN: (to the camera) People of Mumbai, you have been infected with the Bollywood fever! You can thank me later!

The group continues to dance down the street as the camera pulls back, revealing the Mumbai city skyline.

FADE OUT.

The Magician

Got this card at a reading!

First of all, the leopard is my favorite card. This is a major arcana card and has the sword, the cup, and the infinity logo along with the five pointed star, which according to the fresh out of the box reader Shiv, represents a balance between masculine and feminine energy, with the top of the star being masculine and the bottom being feminine.

Cute leopard tho.

The reading by the guidebook says:

Self-Empowerment, Action
The magician is a card of boundless, expansive energy. Whereas many of the Major Arcana cards deal with stillness or aspects of the mind... this card is all about action, action, action. It's time to see yourself as the wildcat - embrace his speed, grace and abilities. Don't be afraid to begin. You have the power of all four elements within your reach. Now is the time to use them.

In other news, I got the deck for myself ^^. It is the Wild Unknown Pocket Tarot

Austronesians went to America

Here is a map superimposed on another. One is the spread of humans across land out of Africa. The second is the Austronesian expansion using boats. For some reason, Norse expidition apparently crossed the Atlantic, but the people of Hawaii or Easter Islands did not make it to the Americas across the pacific. The red lines are considered fringe or pseudoscience.

There is plenty of evidence that this happened though
- Skulls matching pacific islanders in South America
- Similar words in the pacific islands and South America
- Chicken found in South America that is not genetically similar to European chicken
- Sweet potatoes in South America
- Similar boat building techniques used in America
- Custard apple carving in Indian Stupa, and elephant carving in Mayan remains

Those are not Elephants on this Mayan stele, according to scientists

The total works of top authors in computer memory

Carroll, Lewis 1081 KB
Doyle, Arthur Conan, Sir 4100 KB
Twain, Mark 2096 KB
Dickens, Charles 12812 KB
Austen, Jane 800 KB
Shakespeare, William 9366 KB
Verne, Jules 2709 KB
Aesop 93 KB
Wilde, Oscar 960 KB
Wells, H. G. 3310 KB

Not everything is as straightforward as it may seem though. For example, the biggest contribution to Lewis's tally, is "Symbolic Logic", at 490 KB of plaintext. This was a maths book he wrote for the queen. Mark Twain's tally ignores letters and non fiction, just because too much of his shit ended up being published. The tallies for all authors do not consider translations, derivative works, variations and most importantly, original works in any non-english language. Charles Dickens was a monster, and if he had a good QWERTY keyboard and a word processor, he would surely outwrite the rest of the top ten on his own. He almost does it as it is, if you kick Shakespeare from the list, which is another thing I almost did as he is a loser midiveal jurrassic playwrite, and fucking outdated.

Now for some awards.
Most bang per byte - Jules Verne
Most historical bytes - Aesop
Most garbage - Charles Dickens
