Dogmatix's debut

Dissecting the Asterix comics in detail, mostly in a quest for all the ingredients of the Magic Potion, but I am coming across really cool things on the way. Will blog some of that later. For starters, here is dogmatix's appearence.

Dogmatix first appears outside a Butcher's shop in Lutetia.

This information is in the "compelete guide to Asterix" but the frame isn't there. Apparently, Dogmatix was drawn as a stray outside the shop waiting for scraps, who follows Obelix for the rest of the book. The dog is supposed to be discreet, and in the book, the dog IS pretty hard to notice, because there are a lot of elements around in crowded Lutetia. But once they get back to the villiage, it sticks to obelix. The hunt is on for the first frame where Obelix acknowledges the presence of the dog.

update Dogmatix appears on the cover of the next book, Asterix in Corsica. But there is a problem here. Asterix in Crosica is book 24, and Asterix and the Banquet, which apparently has Dogmatix's first appearence is book no 23. Dogmatix chronologically appears first in Book 2, Asterix in spain. In the Banquet, the dog definately DOES NOT show up till the butcher's shop frame. Donno how to figure this out, but let's just say that the series wasn't translated in the same order in which they were written.
