The clever thing is that Uderzo sometimes made frames to replicate famous paintings or sculpture. There are also many references in the panels, some painfully obvious. Here are some of the painfully obvious ones.
The Ku Klux Klan hoods.
in Asterix the Gaul, a procession of druids are seen wearing Ku Klux Klan hoods. this is unnatural as all other druid processions have hoodless Druids. Did not exactly understand the point here... but what the hell, it was there:
The Beatles show up in Asterix in Britain.
Reading more now. Gone through four yesterday, couldn't blog then because of browser problems. Will read more.
