Mumbai Police

Let it never be said that the police of Mumbai are lazy and don’t take care of the public.

So there are fifteen of us from college, and we are hanging out just outside the college. There is this stupid little shop that exploited me two years ago and cheated me of ten rupees, and therefore I have not bought anything from there since then. However, we happened to stand in front of this shop because it is just outside our college, and suddenly, this female shop owner starts screaming at us. She says something like we are driving away the customers, and orders us off her property. We go, but obviously some of us get hotheaded (not me, I was telling my friends (very) calmly that if anything we are attracting more people to the shop giving the illusion that it is very popular amongst college kids). Anyway, so there is an exchange of words, all of it was very funny, but I laughed too much to remember exactly what, so basically, she gets the bright idea of calling the cops. One of my friends spoke to the cop from her phone and told the cop that none o us had anything to fear because we hadn’t done anything wrong.
Five minutes later, two police jeeps with fifteen policemen arrives at the vicinity.

The shop owner immediately approached them with the hafta. Once that was settled, the policemen from one jeep (except the driver) got off and fanned out. One guy went around asking questions to neighborhood shop owners, and they came to out rescue (yes!!!) by saying that we were very well behaved and that it was nice to see some activity in the afternoon, otherwise we do not disturb them any other time.
Three policemen were handling the woman. The rest were speaking to three other policemen from the second jeep, and the rest of the policemen remained in the second jeep itself, talking amongst themselves, and occasionally casting a lazy eye on the happening outside.
The policemen were downright cool. That just has to be said, he started giving us advice on how to harass that female in more novel ways! He just told us to leave her alone in the nicest possible way, and didn’t even get angry when some of us pointed that they should be handling murder and rape cases instead. The only thing he said in defense of the landlady was that to treat her like our grandmother and not demonize her. To which a friend replied something about not insulting his grandmother. A policeman went on to suggest the bright idea of all of us standing in front of the shop while one of us brought something from there.
We even pointed out that the lady had kept a board on public property… she scolded us for covering it… and it was bloody empty.

The police went away after a large crowd began to gather.

The gameplan for tomorrow: all of us gather and buy one sheet of paper of different specifications from the shop each.

After this happened, we hung out at CCD for almost three hours. Then a friend showed up and we went on a small walk to Sion fort before I headed back to my friends in CCD. Here are pictures of the both of us at the fort. I also found some aerial roots that make amazing ropes when they are dried out… will blog pictures of the rope later.
